Net flow
The value of money entering a fund minus the money leaving it over a period, as measured by shares created and redeemed.
For an ETF, net flow is the dollar value of shares created minus shares redeemed over a day or another period. A positive figure is a net inflow; a negative one is a net outflow.
Flows are not the same as trading volume. When investors trade existing ETF shares with each other on the exchange, the number of shares does not change and no flow is recorded.
For spot bitcoin ETFs, flow totals are usually published after the US market closes, and many readers add up all funds to see the combined picture. Exchange net flows in crypto follow the same idea: coins moved onto exchanges minus coins moved off.
