All-time high
The highest price an asset has ever traded or closed at since it started trading.
An all-time high (ATH) is the top of an asset’s entire price history. Some sources use the highest intraday trade, others the highest close, so two charts can show slightly different numbers for the same asset.
Above an all-time high there is no earlier price where buyers and sellers last met, so there is no older resistance to mark. That is one reason the level gets so much attention when price approaches it.
Distance from the all-time high is a common way to describe a drawdown. Percentages are not symmetric: the gain needed to recover is always larger than the fall that came before it.
