Candlestick
A chart bar that shows the open, high, low and close of one period, with a body between open and close and wicks to the extremes.
Each candlestick covers one period, such as a day or an hour. The thick body spans the open and the close. Thin lines above and below, called wicks or shadows, reach the highest and lowest prices traded.
A candle is usually drawn green or hollow when the close is above the open, and red or filled when the close is below it. Colors are a chart setting, so they can differ between platforms.
The shape of a candle summarizes the fight within the period. A long body shows one side in control from open to close; long wicks show that price travelled far but was pushed back.
