Wick
The thin line above or below a candlestick’s body that shows the highest or lowest price reached in the period.
A wick, also called a shadow, extends from the body of a candle to the period’s high or low. The upper wick runs from the top of the body to the high; the lower wick runs from the bottom of the body to the low.
A long wick shows that price travelled far in one direction but was pushed back before the close. A long lower wick means sellers drove the price down and buyers lifted it again; a long upper wick shows the reverse.
Wicks often poke through support and resistance zones without a close beyond them, which is one reason closes are usually given more weight than intraday extremes.
