Higher high

A swing high that sits above the previous swing high, one of the two building blocks of an uptrend.

A higher high forms when price turns down from a peak that is above the peak before it. On its own it shows that buyers pushed further than last time.

On Chartora’s charts the comparison uses confirmed swing highs: daily closes higher than the four closes on each side. Because of that rule, a new higher high is only confirmed four sessions after it happens.

Paired with higher lows, higher highs describe an uptrend. A higher high without a higher low is a mixed picture, and Chartora reads that combination as a range.
