Swing high

A local peak on a chart. Chartora defines it as a daily close higher than the four closes on each side of it.

A swing high marks a point where a rally turned lower. Definitions vary between traders; Chartora uses a fixed rule so the result does not depend on judgment: a daily close that is higher than each of the four closes before it and the four closes after it.

The rule means a swing high can only be confirmed four sessions after it forms. The most recent four days of any chart therefore cannot contain a confirmed swing high yet.

Swing highs are the raw material for resistance levels and for reading trend structure through higher highs and lower highs.
